Massage Therapy SchoolMassage therapy has been around since a long time ago, and it has grown in popularity throughout the years. Presently, there are many people who want to learn about massage and other alternative health practices, such as acupuncture. A massage therapy school is a regulated health school for those who wish to become massage therapists. After training is completed, a student may take a licensing or certification exam to become a certified massage therapist. At a massage therapy school, students will learn the art of massage and apply their massaging skills in lab sessions. Classroom training is basically centered on health and general physiology studies while practical training involves many hours of massaging in the labs. Many massage therapy schools are located in the city, usually in an office setting. Classes are offered throughout the week at a massage therapy school, and clients will become practice patients for massage students who are in training. During a massage session, the massage therapist applies a type of lotion to the area of the body that is to be massaged. The therapist will then manipulate the joints, tendons and ligaments, soft tissues and skin by using therapeutic strokes, pressing, tapping and squeezing. Massage therapy relaxes the muscles, stimulates the lymphatic system, improves blood circulation and calms the nerves. Therapy can help people who suffer from physical as well as mental illnesses. A normal session lasts about 45 minutes to an hour. There are different forms of massage therapy that a student can learn in a massage therapy school, including acupuncture, pain management, geriatric massage, sports massage and others. The student will normally be exposed to all the different types of massage before he or she decides which to specialize in. This is a good career choice for an individual who wants to learn massage therapy to help promote health. |
