Abstract:
The Three R's Test is a series of standardized achievement tests in the areas of reading, language, and mathematics for grades K-12. Administration time is 85 minutes for grades K-2 and 98 minutes for grades 3-12. A shorter Class Period Edition is available and takes only 45 minutes. The subtests cover a variety of skills that are classified under the headings: Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Study Skills, Capitalization, Spelling, Punctuation, Grammar, Computation, and Problem-Solving. All items are multiple-choice with either four or five response options, which are recorded on a bubble response sheet for computer scoring by the publisher. Raw scores are converted to grade level equivalencies, expanded standard scores, normal curve equivalents, percentile ranks, and stanines. Fall and Spring norms are available, as are special norms for Catholic/private schools and large city schools. Score reports are available in a variety of formats including student lists, student labels, classroom reports, item analysis summaries, and administrator's reports. Split-half and Kuder-Richardson Formula 20 reliability estimates for subtests are in the .80s and .90s generally, and validity was built into the tests by using curriculum objectives taken from both textbook and state curriculum guides to develop test items. The Three R's Test was normed on two national samples; a spring standardization sample containing 85,000 students and a fall sample of 32,500 students.
