Abstract:
The Bilingual Two Language Battery of Tests is intended to help establish language dominance, diagnose language weaknesses, and make placement decisions. It is appropriate for students of English of all ages for whom the home language is Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Vietnamese, or French, but examinees need to be able to read and write in one of their languages at the second grade level.. Testing sessions begin with a Native Language Sitting which is followed by an English Language Sitting, each of which takes 21 minutes. A second administration should follow in the same year, but no sooner than six months from the first administration. The test has four sections: Phonetics, Comprehension Situations, Writing, and an optional Oral Proficiency test. Test items are of the multiple choice and short written response types. Scoring judgements for written response items are made by the examiner with guidance from the Test Manual. Scores are graphed on a Student Scores Profile Card and assigned an LAU category such as Mono-lingual non-English or Predominantly English. No information about reliability, validity, or test development it reported in the Test Manual.
